As spring unfolds, Beijing Language and Culture University is preparing for its 8th World Culture Festival. In the hope of having another successful World Culture Festival, we cordially invite you to participate this year’s events.

 

Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) is renowned as a local “Mini-United Nations” due to its great number of international students from all around the world. As part of the university’s global initiatives, BLCU students’ council sponsors a wide array of cultural exchange activities every year. The World Culture Festival, a long-standing tradition of BLCU, has received a large amount of support from embassies, various cultural institutions, as well as domestic and international students at BLCU.

 

In this year’s World Culture Festival, more than 1,000 students from over 100 countries will participate in various activities. The 8th World Culture Festival will begin in April and last for one month.

 

Beijing Language and Culture University is the first university in China to recruit international students and teach Chinese as a second language. Over the forty-six years since its founding, BLCU has educated over 100,000 international students from over 160 countries. Currently, more than 10,000 students from overseas and more than 5,000 students from China study here every year.

The Opening Ceremony

 

The opening ceremony of The 8th World Culture Festival is to be held in the Ceremony Hall on April 1st, 2011. Distinguished guests including ambassadors, embassy officials, local government officials, the president of Beijing Language and Culture University and various cultural institution leaders will be invited.

 

The 8th World Culture Festival official logo will be launched. The theme song of the festival will be performed. We will also invite the popular 12 Girls Band to give a performance.

 

About 12 Girls Band

 

12 Girls Band was founded in June 2001. It combines China's traditional

musical instruments with contemporary popular music elements.

Mini-Expo

 

Mini-Expo is one of the most popular activities in the previous World Culture Festivals. It attracts thousands of visitors every year. Students and scholars from all over the world put on their traditional costumes, bring special handicrafts, paintings, artworks as well as traditional food and drinks to showcase their own culture. Performance is also offered on the central stage in Mini-Expo.

College Culture Exchange

 

College Culture Exchange is an activity-based cultural exchange program, where participants practice language skills and communicate their international experience with each other. Closing Ceremony

 

The 2011 BLCU Singing Competition in May will mark the end of The 8th World Culture Festival as its closing ceremony. The BLCU Singing Competition is the biggest on-campus singing contest every year. Contestants from around the world bring various music and singing styles to the BLCU stage. The winner is awarded prizes every year.
